The Lone Star Puppet Guild was established in 1972
for the advancement and improvement of the art of puppetry as
a chartered guild of the Puppeteers of America, Inc., the national
non-profit organization.
Guild membership includes noted local puppeteers, artists and
craftsmen, educators, librarians, collectors and enthusiasts.
Meetings offer a variety of programs
such as live performances, demonstrations, hands-on workshops,
and audiovisual presentations. Subjects vary from hand puppets,
marionettes, stop motion puppet animation, shadow puppets, etc.
Networking – whether one is a novice
or a professional, the LSPG provides an opportunity to broaden
horizons and gain expertise through the diverse talents of fellow
guild members.
The Lone Star Puppet Guild has promoted
puppetry in the Southwest by staging festivals at local venues
where the public can participate in hands-on workshops, lecture
demonstrations, attend performances and enjoy exhibits of puppets
that showcase the works of puppeteers past and present. The guild
has sponsored local performances by some of the world’s
leading puppeteers.
For those with an interest in puppetry,
the Lone Star Puppet Guild provides an opportunity to gain skills
in the areas of puppet design, construction, production and manipulation.
All members are encouraged to participate
in guild activities and projects to advance and promote the art
of puppetry in the Southwest.
